Condon Scott Architects wins 2020 TIDA New Zealand Architect New Home of the Year
Congratulations to Condon Scott Architects, winner of TIDA New Zealand Architect New Home of the Year. See how this home makes the most of exceptional lake and alpine views
Sitting high on a site overlooking Lake Wanaka, this family retreat was designed to capitalise on exceptional lake and alpine views.
But it also needed to provide protected outdoor spaces that are sheltered from seasonal onshore winds, as well as privacy from the public roads on two sides of the wedge-shaped site.

A simple mono-pitched design creates private sheltered courtyards that can be occupied at different times of the day, depending on sun and wind patterns.
Clad in dark stained cedar with black window joinery, the home presents a clean understated presence to the suburban street, with subtle curves drawing the eye to the mountains beyond.
This understated palette continues internally, where the extensively glazed northern face allows living spaces and bedrooms to take in the panoramic views.
This is a home that presents a distinctive architectural solution to the challenges that the site presents, while at the same time making the most of all the advantages it offers.
